WPS DAR Essay Contest and Good Citizen Winners

Berlin, MD – On Monday, April 15, the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) presented this year’s Good Citizen and essay contest awards.
 
The local General Levin Winder Chapter of the DAR recently sponsored two American History essay contests in area schools. The chapter also recognized a senior from each of the four Worcester County high schools as DAR Good Citizens. 
 
The WPS winners of the Daughters of the American Revolution essay contest, open to grades 5 through 8, are as follows: Grade 6 – 1st place, Lea Jaoude; Grade 7 – 1st place, Emerson Bofinger Ava Holland and Liam McAllister tied for 2nd place; Grade 8 – 1st place, Hayden Wagner. Lea Jaoude, Emerson Bofinger and Hayden Wagner will advance to the State competition.
 
WPS freshman Gabriella Damouni won 2nd place in the Patriots of the American Revolution essay contest, open to grades 9 through 12.
 
The DAR Good Citizens program was initiated by the National Society in 1934 to recognize male and female high-school seniors who exemplify the qualities of a good citizen: dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. Senior Dylan McGovern was chosen as this year’s Worcester Prep DAR Good Citizen and was presented with a certificate, lapel pin, and a monetary award.
