WPS Pre-K Egg-cellent Experiments

Berlin, MD – Last week, Worcester Preparatory School’s (WPS) pre-kindergarten class conducted two experiments with eggs as the key ingredient. Both experiments resulted in a great day of fun, all while students learned about the force behind gravity. On Friday, the class celebrated the completion of their studies with an egg hunt in the library.

In the "Inertia Egg Drop Experiment the Law of Inertia was tested. In this case, the egg stays at rest until the plate is moved, allowing gravity to take over. This pulls the egg straight down into the cup because there is no force to change the direction of the egg.

Up next was the "Humpty Dumpty Egg Drop Challenge" which had students, with help from their parents, create parachutes out of household supplies that would protect a hard-boiled egg during a fall and subsequent landing. Students dropped their parachutes from the top of the playground equipment, and not one egg cracked!
