WPS WORX Speaker Series: Judge Brian Shockley and Attorney Meegan Kennedy

Berlin, MD – On Tuesday, February 18, a group of Worcester Preparatory School (WPS) students attended a WORX (Work, Observe, Research, Experience) seminar featuring the Honorable Judge Brian Shockley and attorney Meegan Kennedy as guest speakers, both of whom are WPS alumni.

Judge Shockley has served on the Worcester County Circuit Court since August 2017. Meegan recently worked as a Law Clerk for Judge Shockley in the Circuit Court for Worcester County and previously served in the Office of the Public Defender in Worcester, Wicomico, Somerset, and Dorchester Counties before joining a private law firm.

Judge Shockley and Meegan shared their educational journeys with the WPS students, detailing their paths after graduating from WPS and how they reached their current positions. They also discussed the different court systems and reviewed several cases they have recently worked on. The students engaged in analyzing the cases and expressed their thoughts on how they should have been ruled.

The WORX program at WPS aims to introduce students to the vast opportunities available within the community and beyond. Worcester Prep’s mission of providing a college preparatory education alongside real-world observation will enhance students’ learning and create opportunities for career exposure. These experiential learning opportunities will help students apply their classroom knowledge and encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, confidence, teamwork, and communication.
